00:22 Sounds good leading in

00:45 Good kicks bringing in melody and rhythm

01:10 Subtle switchup into a new bassline

But I really don't hear anything but pads, bass, and drum samples.

Where's the focus and energy? It all sounds ambient.

When I say focus - chord progression and some really "punchy" sounds help. There's a lot to be learned from aptly called "leads". xD

Yeah, that's where I'm at trying to think of new sounds to incorporate to give more subsistence. Thanks for the comments

Two things to note - too much reverb and compression. Makes things sound rather odd (from my own personal opinion). I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise unless had you not said 'thoughtful' review.

The beginning starts off big and tries to get bigger (lots of reverb! Just my opinion), but the drop was very nice.

The overall sound seems over compressed, mostly I'm noticing drop off mid-song and many mid-range frequencies trying to poke through. From what I'm hearing is making the drums rather hard to distinguish throwing off the whole 'house beat' feel of the song.

There's a tempo, yes and that's easy to follow - those are some very nice melodies. But really feeling the rhythm of the bass kick and the punch of the snare/clap/click whatever you fancy really helps the mood of the song.

Almost like you're using a master compressor to get a side-chained sound. I'm not saying that out of spite, the pad is in and out with the bass synth (based on the timing of the synth, makes the pad sound kinda weird).

Just a few tidbits. :D

I'd recommend taking off any effects (reverb/compression/delay/etc) and level the tracks in order of priority. Relying solely on compressors can be messy.

Then adjust compression for each group/track as needed, as it does add some nice punch. I'd rely on master track compression as little as possible. Compression/eq/imaging for drums/pads/bass/etc are all different. It will take a little more time, but it's a great skill to pick up.

What I like about this song is the upbeat and energetic 'open' sound.
The use of dropping and carrying frequencies for the drops is a nice touch.
The choice of instruments is superb to the mood.
I listened to this probably about 5+ times (mostly for 'thoughtful' review purposes, but anyways. :3

Again just my opinion. This is quite a nice track you've got here.

The piano scale in the middle seems a tad off, it seemed rather happy and adverse to the rest of the song ( don't mean the string in the beginning).

But I'm just nitpicking, I like it. :]
